Grade I Listed Elizabethan Gatehouse

Tixall Gatehouse in Staffordshire is a Grade I listed Elizabethan landmark, built around 1580 and now cared for by the Landmark Trust.

Once fallen into ruin, it has been restored and is now being upgraded with a ground source heat pump and underfloor heating installed by IMS—bringing modern, low-carbon comfort while preserving its historic character.

We partnered with Canopy Housing to retrofit a 3-bedroom Victorian terrace in Leeds with an energy-efficient Ariston NIMBUS Pocket 5kW air source heat pump. This installation was recently featured on BBC Morning Live as part of a segment on the importance of energy-efficient retrofits to meet the UK’s 2050 Net Zero goals.

Self-builders Sue and Mike chose to build a detached four-bedroom bungalow in Sheffield, opting for a high-performance, energy-efficient home without a gas connection. After assessing heat loss, IMS installed a 5 kW Vaillant aroTHERM+ air source heat pump with a 190-litre uniTOWER integrated hot water cylinder. Supported by funding from the Boiler Upgrade Scheme, the system delivers consistent, quiet warmth throughout and has earned praise for comfort, even temperatures, and customer service. The installation is saving around 2.7 tonnes of CO₂ per year
